My Adventures as an Illustrator: The Definitive Edition
by Tom Rockwell, Norman Rockwell, Abigail Rockwell
The life of America’s most beloved artist, in his own words―back in print with restored text and drawings, new illustrations, and more. The wit, humanity, and many-sided talent of Norman Rockwell (1894–1978) are on full display in his classic autobiography. Rockwell’s New York City boyhood, his apprentice days at the Art Students League, his first fateful visit to the Saturday Evening Post, his adventures abroad, his move to rural Vermont―all are recounted with a mix of sharp observation and self-deprecating humor. Throughout Rockwell invites the reader into his artistic process: he introduces his favorite models, candidly reveals his biggest flops, and documents the creation of a Post cover step by step.
This Definitive Edition restores the original 1960 text of My Adventures as an Illustrator, as well as the playful vignettes that Rockwell drew to head each chapter. Thanks to a massive image digitization effort undertaken by the Norman Rockwell Museum, it is also illustrated with more than 150 of Rockwell’s paintings and drawings, many of which highlight lesser-known aspects of his work. A new introduction by the artist’s granddaughter Abigail Rockwell adds reference value, as do an illustrated chronology and an annotated bibliography prepared by the staff of the Norman Rockwell Museum.
This attractive volume will be the essential source on the life of Norman Rockwell, and delightful reading for anyone who enjoys his art. Plus, its publication coincides with a major new exhibition at the Norman Rockwell Museum concerning the autobiographical elements in the artist’s work (Norman Rockwell: Private Moments for the Masses, June 8 through October 27, 2019).

Willie Was Different: A Children's Story
A children’s story for the ages by a beloved artist of American life. Norman Rockwell, the foremost chronicler of small-town American life in paint, wrote just one work of fiction, a children’s story, first published in McCall’s magazine in 1967. It was later republished by Funk & Wagnalls as a book, but this edition is based on Rockwell’s original concept, complete with the color and monotone paintings he created for the story.
Willie is a wood thrush―but a very different kind of wood thrush. Driven by his intimation that he possesses a special genius, Willie leaves his avian fellows to take up singing with the exquisitely down-to-earth Miss Polly, flautist extraordinaire. Together they find fame, and they eventually travel to the nation’s capitol so Willie’s beautiful singing can be appreciated all the more. Yet all the attention and bustle of city life distress Willie and make him stop singing, so Miss Polly brings Willie back to his native woods, where he resumes his tranquil life and music-making with her. But the world remembers and reveres Willie and the genius of his song.
Share Willie’s timeless story with the children in your life. 30+ full-color and monotone illustrations throughout

Norman Rockwell 2019 Wall Calendar
An extraordinarily gifted illustrator, Norman Rockwell (American, 1894–1978) began his career at a historic moment when mass-market magazines had begun entering millions of American homes. He went on to illustrate for The Saturday Evening Post for nearly five decades, creating 321 illustrations for its covers alone.
Through his warmhearted, humorous, and superbly wrought illustrations, Rockwell created images of an idealized nation peppered with small towns and filled with industrious, down-to-earth folks. His artworks reflected the currents of American life, the way we were, the way we acted, and the way we treated each other. Most importantly, he showed us the way we wanted to be. By the 1940s, Rockwell was considered a national living treasure. Even today, the well-worn adjective Rockwellian signals a lifestyle that continues amidst an ever-changing world.

Norman Rockwell: Saturday Evening Post 2020 Wall Calendar
Norman Rockwell sold his first illustration to The Saturday Evening Post in 1916. Over the next half century he produced more than three hundred classic covers for that magazine, a body of work that helped shape twentieth-century American identity and that elevated Rockwell (1894-1978) to the status of cultural icon. Although he didn't have a high school diploma (he dropped out to study art at the National Academy of Design), Rockwell did possess superb technical skills, keen powers of observation, and an ability to tell a story visually through a few well-chosen details. With unconcealed sentiment and wry humor, his paintings speak volumes about the human condition and the country he loved.
Twelve of Rockwell's iconic artworks from The Saturday Evening Post are presented here for your enjoyment.
